Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment will my child need?
Most equipment and apparel will be provided with the exception of cleats. Players should provide their own cleats. It is also recommended that players provide their own personal, padded girdle. We will supply practice and game pants, practice and game jerseys, shoulder pads, and helmets. We do have some girdles with limited sizes. Players are allowed to have their own equipment if preferred. If your going to use your own HELMET it must be painted SHINY BLACK. (I have a contact to get helmets painted if needed)
Can 7th graders play?
Students in 7th are allowed to play, HOWEVER, 7th graders will be evaluated and advised based on their abilities. For example, if we feel that a 7th grader could use more development, we will advise them to compete in the 7th grade league or OCYFL. This opportunity will allow them more chances to develop and gain game time experience to better prepare them for their 8th grade year.
Some 7th graders, with exceptional abilities, will be asked to “Play up” with the 8th grade team. (THIS IS VERY RARE, only one 7th grader has played significant time with the 8th graders over the last 5 years!) These players would have to then choose between playing in the 7th grade league or at MBMS. WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE 7th GRADERS TO PLAY WITH 7th A 7th GRADE TEAM!
How much time will my child get to play?
Playing time is not guaranteed. Playing time will be based on effort and ability. It will be our goal to provide each player some time on the field but we cannot promise any playing time. Players will have a chance to improve and compete in practice to earn more game repetitions.
What position(s) will my child play?
Players will be evaluated throughout the spring and summer to determine player positions. Positions will be based on what will best help the team. Most middle schoolers will continue to grow and develop throughout their 7th and 8th grade years so their previous positions may not fit their current OR future positions. Some players may even be moved to other positions during the season.
*All positions and playing time will be determined by the coaching staff throughout the season.
What happens if my child misses practice?
Our preparations are vital to our success and therefore all players are expected to attend ALL practices. If a situation arises that causes a player to miss, it is expected that the player communicates with a coach prior to missing practice. Parents are welcomed to communicate as well, but while trying to teach players to be accountable, we would like to hear from them. Missing practice and/or failure to communicate will affect playing time. BEHAVIOR in school will also affect playing time. We firmly believe that it is Student First, Athlete Second!
